This is a problem reported to evseODM by a German dealer. Some of his customers reported that the car end plugs of the EV chargers he had sold appeared to be rusted with a lot of blue patina. This problem made our dealer doubt the EVSE material used by evseODM, thinking that there is a quality problem with our products.
After receiving the feedback, we took it as a high priority and immediately arranged for an after-sales specialist to contact the dealer, analyze the possible reasons and give an clear explanation of this issue.
Possible reasons:
- The plug drooped down without thedust cover being tightly closedafter use, and then rainwater came inside the cover.
- The plug was placed on the ground and not put away in timeafter use.
- This situation is directly related to the local humidity and climate, and only occurs in individual regions.
Why are there blue substances on the terminal of the EV plugs?
The dust cover may not be tightly closed. If it is closed tightly, the water cannot get in. The plug hangs there and droops down, so when the water slowly enters the dust cover, it will form a small puddle where the plug will be soaked for a long time. Then a patina reaction will occur since there is copper on the terminal of the plug.
Summary:
After the oxide is removed, the charger can be used normally again without any impact on its function and safety. If you’re worried about the recurrence of the patina reaction, you can use the charger with a holder. You can insert the plug into the holder when it’s not in use to keep it from getting soaked in rainwater and ensure that the patina won’t appear again.
